Hi friends!
I know, it’s an off-week, you weren’t expecting any recs from me. I wasn’t expecting to have to share recs either – I’m currently working very hard on my self-control and am only two eps into the new season of The Bear. (It just came out here two days ago, I don’t have that much self-control.)
However, Substack just launched a cool new feature, so I hope you don’t mind me dropping by real fast. (Don’t worry, I’m still including a bonus rec in here, too – who do you think I am?)

Bad Sisters (TV)
My husband recently watched this Apple TV+ banger from last year for the first time, which reminded me just how great it was/is.
The hilarious and clever Sharon Horgan (of Catastrophe and This Way Up fame) adapts and stars in this Irish black-comedy remake of a Belgian show about four adult sisters who ineptly try to kill their (truly awful) brother-in-law. The cast is truly excellent – special shoutouts to Claes Bang for being such a good (despicable) villain, to Sarah Greene for finally getting to show her ra(n)ge, and to whichever Gleeson for being so pitch-perfectly annoying – and the story is absolutely bonkers in the best way. Gorgeous cinematography, stunning set design, and I will never be able to get that very creepy title sequence out of my head.
More than anything, Bad Sisters is a case study in how something doesn’t have to be perfect to be a winner. I didn’t think the show landed every component, but it’s so much fun, and is so smart, and has so much heart that I didn’t mind. May we be so lucky to have more art like this. (Except that they’re making a second season, which I am very skeptical of – I look forward to being proven wrong.)
Where to watch: Apple TV+
